How Long Should You Brush Your Teeth? A Simple Daily Routine

How Long Should You Brush Your Teeth?
Have you ever wondered whether you brush for long enough? It can be easy to rush through a daily routine, especially on a busy morning.
The Canadian Dental Association recommends brushing for 2–3 minutes, twice a day. Use a manual or electric toothbrush to clean the inside, outside and chewing surfaces of your teeth. The CDA also recommends using a soft-bristle toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
A simple way to keep track
Try setting a timer while you brush. Move steadily around your mouth and give each area attention instead of repeatedly brushing the same spots. A timer on your phone or an electric toothbrush with a built-in timer can be a helpful reminder.
The CDA also recommends waiting about 30 minutes after eating before brushing. After brushing, spit out the excess toothpaste rather than rinsing immediately.
Make the routine work for you
The right tools and brushing technique can vary from person to person. If brushing is difficult because of grip, movement or another personal concern, ask your dental professional about options that may suit your needs.
Quick reminder: Brush for 2–3 minutes, twice a day. Small routines are easier to keep when they fit comfortably into your day.
